It is also worth noting that the winter holidays for schoolchildren in 2026 will be set until January 12, allowing families to spend more time together and strengthen family ties.
The first two weeks of January are peak for the winter tourist season. Extending the holidays could bring additional income to small and medium-sized businesses, as well as help develop regions with tourism potential.
Moreover, extending the winter holidays will help reduce the electricity deficit and decrease the load on public utilities.Introducing additional days off until January 12 will also enhance the efficiency of government institutions and improve socio-economic indicators, notes the Ministry of Labor. It is emphasized that such a decision will not require significant budget expenditures.
According to the proposed document, employees of state and municipal organizations who work a five-day workweek will have days off on January 8 and 9, 2026, and the following changes will occur in the schedule:
- The day off on February 7, 2026, will be moved to January 8, 2026;
- The day off on April 25, 2026, will be moved to January 9, 2026.
