In Kyrgyzstan, the question of extending the New Year holidays until January 12 is being considered. This draft resolution has been submitted for public discussion.

To enhance the effectiveness of using weekends, the Cabinet of Ministers proposes to establish January 8 and 9, 2026, as days off for employees of state and municipal institutions, as well as budget-funded enterprises that operate on a five-day workweek:
In this context, it is proposed to move:

the day off from February 7 to January 8;
the day off from April 25 to January 9.
In the justification for the project, it is noted that after the New Year holidays, there is usually an increase in cases of acute respiratory infections and influenza.

Considering that school winter holidays next year will last until January 12, the possibility of joint leisure for parents and children during this time will contribute to strengthening family ties.

“The first half of January is the peak of the winter tourist season. Extending the holidays could bring additional income to small and medium-sized businesses and support the development of tourist regions. It will also help reduce electricity consumption and the load on utility services. Ultimately, extending the New Year holidays until January 12 will contribute to improving the efficiency of government institutions and enhancing socio-economic conditions, as well as strengthening the health and well-being of the population,” emphasizes the Ministry of Labor.

According to the agency, the decision to extend the holidays will not require significant budget expenditures.
