The first gold medalist of the IMO from Kyrgyzstan enrolled at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Nazar Kyrgyzbaev has become the first Kyrgyzstani to be awarded a gold medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) who has been admitted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). This event was announced by the Ministry of Education of Kyrgyzstan.

On December 17, MIT published the list of applicants accepted in the early action round for the 2026 academic year, and Nazar was among those admitted.

Over the past two years, Nazar has become the fourth representative of the Kyrgyz national mathematics team to be accepted into MIT. Previously, Tilek Askerbekov, Eldar Iskanderov, and Isken Kenzhebaev were admitted there.

Nazar's preparation was supervised by Mamat Ishmatov, the head coach and leader of the Kyrgyzstan mathematics team.

Nazar is a graduate of secondary school No. 61 and is currently studying under the Cambridge A-Level program at the "Maarif" educational complex, where he continues to receive education according to international standards.

The Ministry of Education of Kyrgyzstan congratulated Nazar, his family, and mentors, emphasizing the significance of this achievement for the country.
