The school for visually impaired students from Bishkek is proposed to be moved to Vorontsovka

Elvira Surabaldiyeva, a deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh, has called on the authorities not to relocate the specialized school for visually impaired and blind children.

During a meeting held on January 14, she announced plans to transfer the boarding school for children with visual impairments from Bishkek to the village of Vorontsovka.

Surabaldiyeva noted that there are only two specialized schools in the country: one in Bishkek and the other in Osh. The capital's school has 220 students, about 100 of whom come from various regions.

According to the deputy, both parents and the school staff express concern about the potential relocation. Vorontsovka is located far away, and public transport to it runs irregularly, which does not meet the needs of children with visual impairments.

“Relocating this school is unacceptable. Children with vision problems take a long time to get used to the route to school—they memorize paths and landmarks. If the school is moved, they will have to learn to find their way all over again,” she emphasized.

The deputy appealed to the authorities to keep the school in its current location to avoid creating additional difficulties for children with special educational needs.
