At the latest session of the city council, deputy Zhibek Sharapova raised the issue of inclusive education in public educational institutions in Bishkek.

She inquired about the plans the city administration has for implementing this initiative.

In response, Vice Mayor Viktoria Mozgacheva stated that work will begin with the opening of a social rehabilitation center for children, which will be located in a building that was previously used as a kindergarten and the primary classes of school No. 61.

“Several tenders have been held, but there were no applications. After selecting a winner and signing a contract, construction work began. Currently, major repairs are underway in the building. The center is expected to be launched in February,” Viktoria Mozgacheva said.

She also noted that new schools to be built in the future should be inclusive so that children with normal intelligence but with mobility limitations can receive education in regular schools.

The Vice Mayor added that one of the schools already has a correctional class and a class for children with cochlear implants.

“It is also important to design and construct at least one specialized school in the city that will fully meet the requirements for children in need of special education,” Viktoria Mozgacheva emphasized.

Zhibek Sharapova highlighted that inclusive education should involve the joint education of both healthy children and children with special needs. “You focus only on physical characteristics. What about mental ones? In Western countries, for example, this has long been the norm,” the deputy noted.
