More than 650 schools are implementing inclusive practices in Kyrgyzstan
According to the agency, there are 2,394 schools and 1,997 kindergartens in the country, where more than 1.5 million children are educated and raised. Of these, 29,728 children are registered in the system as having disabilities.
The Ministry of Education highlighted several key achievements in this area:
Updating inclusive education standards. The principles of inclusion are now officially enshrined in the state educational standard.
Regulation of the work of the Psychological-Medical-Pedagogical Commission (PMPC). New model regulations for PMPCs have been introduced, establishing clear mechanisms for diagnosis and support.
Diversity of learning formats. Various educational formats are available for children with health limitations, including the online school "Tunguch," home schooling, boarding school, and individual home education.
Expansion of inclusive practices. More than 650 educational institutions are implementing inclusive approaches, covering over 18,500 children.
Increasing human resources and infrastructure through international projects. The Twinning and Smart-ED projects, as well as the training of 100 educators in Moscow, have contributed to the professional development of teachers and the growth of inclusive schools.
“In the Kyrgyz Republic, an important legal and programmatic foundation for inclusive education has been laid. The reforms aim to create equal opportunities for children with disabilities, including various forms of education,” the agency reported.
Inclusive education offers equal access to knowledge for all students, taking into account their individual needs and abilities. It should be flexible enough to accommodate both high achievers and children with disabilities or foreign students in the same class. However, not all parents are able to secure a place for their child with disabilities in educational institutions.
Every year on December 3, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities is celebrated.
