In Bishkek, at 37 Kulatov Street, there is a special boarding school for children with visual impairments. The question of its possible relocation to the villages of Chon-Aryk or Tash-Dobo has become relevant due to an appeal from one of the mothers, Nuriya Kurmanalieva, who expressed deep concern about this issue.

She noted that moving such an educational institution could lead to problems with access to education for children. “The new school should be built in the same location. We have enough space for this. I heard that some investor has already purchased the land, and the move could take place in the new school year. Officials promise to organize transportation for the students, but how will they be able to gather children from all over the city? It will be difficult for both children and teachers to get there on their own, as well as to participate in various extracurricular activities,” Nuriya Kurmanalieva expressed her concerns.

More than 200 children study at the school, of which 95 attend classes, while the others live in the boarding facility.

Iskender Sultanaliev, the head of the public fund "Phenomenon," also drew attention to this situation in his recent post on Facebook. He raised the issue of building a new school at a meeting of the Council for the Affairs of Persons with Disabilities, which was chaired by Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev.

“I asked why the new building is being constructed outside the city, rather than at Kulatov, 37. In response, the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister stated that the new school will meet modern international standards — with a swimming pool, gym, and fitness club for children. However, for many parents of children with disabilities, moving out of the city is a significant inconvenience: it is expensive, inconvenient, and often impossible to reach by taxi. As a solution, we were promised that a free state bus would be organized to transport children from the city to school and back every day, and for those living in the regions, transportation would be arranged on Mondays and Fridays,” Iskender Sultanaliev said.

The press service of the Ministry of Education reported that at the moment, the boarding schools for blind children continue to operate as usual. “We have not received any requests regarding a possible relocation to Chon-Aryk. If such an initiative arises, it will be considered in the established manner,” the department noted.

It should be recalled that in September 2025, Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev already visited this boarding school. At that time, it became known that the institution, which has been operating since 1939, needs significant renovation. The Prime Minister instructed to prepare proposals for the construction of a new school that would meet all necessary requirements, as well as to ensure the purchase of special equipment for education, taking into account the health characteristics of the students, such as tactile boards and 3D maps.

Parents of the students plan to seek support from the President of the Kyrgyz Republic.
