In 20 Years in Japan, Over 300 Kyrgyz Civil Servants Have Completed Training

From 2006 to 2025, more than 300 state and municipal officials of Kyrgyzstan have undergone training in Japan, including 28 participants in the "Young Leaders" program. This information was reported by the press service of the State Agency for Public Service and Local Self-Government.

The director of the agency, Elchibek Jantayev, held a meeting with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan to Kyrgyzstan, Hirano Ryuichi. During the discussion, the parties addressed issues of cooperation in the field of capacity building and reviewed the results of the JDS scholarship program. Kyrgyz civil servants have the opportunity to study for master's and doctoral degrees in Japan. As part of the 20th cohort of the project, Japan allocated a grant of 399 million yen (approximately $2.5 million).

During the meeting, the idea was proposed to increase the quota of the JDS program to 50 places (currently 20) and to expand the "Young Leaders" program to 10 places (currently 2). Ambassador Hirano Ryuichi expressed his readiness to convey these initiatives to the Japanese side.

In addition, the agency noted that in 2026, the 20th anniversary of the JDS program and the 25th anniversary of the JICA representation in Kyrgyzstan will be celebrated.
