Local residents expressed their doubts, but the deputies still supported the initiative
In the Chuy region, in the Issyk-Ata district, an initiative has arisen to change the name of the village of Dmitrievka to Esirkemish. This became known from a message from the district administration.
According to the information, on December 30, 2025, a collective appeal from the residents of the settlement was submitted to the head of the village council requesting to change the name of the village.
Public hearings took place on January 22, with about 250 people participating. As a result of the discussion, the issue was brought to the session of the village council.
At the session held on January 23, the deputies approved the renaming of the village.
However, some residents of Dmitrievka previously expressed their disagreement with this decision on social media, claiming that the renaming could negatively affect the tourist and cultural value of the village.
