According to Bloomberg, the United States has officially withdrawn from the Paris Agreement on climate change.

The Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change reported that this decision took effect on January 27, coinciding with the anniversary of the notification sent to the UN by President Donald Trump's administration a year earlier.

It is worth noting that the order to withdraw from the agreement was signed by Trump on the day of his inauguration in January 2025.

The Paris Agreement aims to limit global warming and minimize the risks associated with the catastrophic consequences of climate change.

Now that the U.S. has exited the agreement, it is no longer obligated to meet greenhouse gas emission reduction requirements. This also means the cessation of the country's participation in international climate conferences and a potential reduction in funding for programs aimed at helping the least developed countries adapt to climate change and protect against its impacts.

According to statistics, the U.S. ranks second in the world for greenhouse gas emissions, surpassed only by China. The UN predicts that if the current global climate policy remains unchanged, the average temperature on the planet could increase by 2.8 degrees by the end of the 21st century compared to pre-industrial levels. The U.S. withdrawal from the agreement could contribute to an increase in this figure by 0.1 degrees.

This is not the first time the U.S. has withdrawn from the Paris climate agreement under Donald Trump. During his first presidential term, the country also left this treaty, but then rejoined it under the administration of Joe Biden.

Additionally, Donald Trump signed an order that terminates funding and U.S. participation in 66 international organizations.

The U.S. has also officially withdrawn from the World Health Organization (WHO).
