At a meeting of the permanent commission of the Bishkek City Council on municipal property issues, Deputy Kazybek Ergeshov raised the issue of increasing rent for land and tariffs at the capital's municipal markets.

He noted that the actions of local authorities are unjustified and create an excessive burden for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Ergeshov emphasized that entrepreneurs are the key participants in forming the city's budget, contributing to job creation and reducing unemployment and poverty levels.

“Instead of supporting small and medium businesses and creating favorable conditions for their growth, the city hall is, on the contrary, trying to increase budget revenues at their expense by raising rental rates,” the deputy stated.

Seydbek Sarybaev, deputy director of the municipal enterprise "City Road Transport Infrastructure," explained that the enterprise manages seven municipal markets based on contracts.

He added that the current tariffs were set by previous owners and do not cover current expenses, which is the reason for the increase in fees by 23 soms per square meter.

“These funds go to the city budget. The average rent for a container is about 3,000 soms. Considering inflation and rising service costs, we need to ensure profitability and cover expenses,” the official explained.

However, Ergeshov disagreed with this logic, pointing out the additional expenses entrepreneurs incur for security and maintenance, which can reach 10,000 soms per container.

“You should support entrepreneurs, not suppress them. Do not forget that you are drinking water from a well that you yourself are polluting,” he addressed the city hall representatives.
