Recent changes to the school holiday schedule in Kyrgyzstan have caused dissatisfaction among parents. The question of why the spring break was moved to early March has become a topic of discussion, particularly among one of the readers of 24.kg.

In her opinion, for a long time, the third quarter ended in late March. “The holidays always coincided with April 1. Now, due to the new logic of officials, the third quarter, which started on January 12, has become significantly shorter. Why are there so many days off at the end of the school year in May?” she asked representatives of the Ministry of Education.

Some social media users noted that the fourth quarter now lasts 2.5 months, which significantly exceeds the duration of the third.

“Is this normal? Children are expecting exams and the National Testing, and then this situation arises,” wrote one mother. “After May 20, it becomes unbearably hot in the classrooms,” added another.

Teachers also expressed confusion about the lack of time for preparing tests and grading, as they were left with only three days for this.

It was previously reported that initially, students could only have one day off in the spring – on Friday, March 6. However, after public criticism, officials extended the break from March 2 to March 7. This change means that the Last Bell will now ring not on May 25, but on the 29th.

In 2025, spring break was planned for March 17 to March 23.

Traditionally, the third quarter ended before the Nowruz holiday, and the fourth began on April 1, which provided for 10 calendar days of vacation.

In Kazakhstan, for example, in the spring of 2026, students will be able to rest for 11 calendar days – from March 19 to March 29 inclusive, according to local sources.
