The process of restoring the Aral Sea ecosystem continues. On February 25, the next stage of planting saxaul began on the drained bottom of the Aral Sea. This year, a group of young volunteers joined the environmental specialists and UNDP staff, writes Podrobno.uz.

Planting saxaul plays a key role in the long-term rehabilitation of the nature of the Aral Sea region, as each plant serves as a natural barrier against destructive salt-dust storms. Thanks to the ability of saxaul to stabilize the soil, such plantations prevent further desertification and strengthen the overall ecological resilience of the region.

This time, the trip to the region was combined with the educational program Aral School. Young activists witnessed the scale of the climate crisis firsthand, working directly in areas that were underwater just a few decades ago.

The main goal of such initiatives is not just to plant a certain number of seedlings, but to ensure the gradual stabilization of the soil. According to experts, only systematic and long-term planting of the bottom can stabilize the ecological situation and strengthen the region's resilience to dust storms.
