At the post 'Kyzyl-Kiya', the import of 80 thousand seedlings from Uzbekistan was stopped

On March 3, 2026, at the phytosanitary control post "Kyzyl-Kiya" in the Batken region, an attempt to import more than 80 thousand seedlings from Uzbekistan was halted. Inspectors from the Department of Chemicalization, Plant Protection, and Quarantine discovered a shipment consisting of 80,520 seedlings, which necessitated intervention.

The ban on the import of this batch was based on the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic No. 103, adopted on February 13, 2026, which imposes a temporary ban on the import of seedlings of fruit and berry crop varieties. Inspections revealed that the imported varieties did not comply with the list of permitted crops specified in this regulatory act.

According to current legislation, the entire volume of the discovered planting material was returned to Uzbekistan. The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry emphasizes that such measures are aimed at protecting the phytosanitary safety of the country and supporting local seed production. Border control has become stricter to prevent the import of products that do not meet established standards.
