Former head of 'Kumtor' Tengiz Bolturuk asks the president to initiate a review of his case

Bolturuk emphasizes that this is important for his full rehabilitation and restoration of his reputation.

Tengiz Bolturuk, who previously held the position of external manager at the Kumtor mine and was convicted in a corruption case, shared on social media that he sent a letter to President Sadyr Japarov requesting a review of his case, citing newly discovered facts.

He claims that such a measure is necessary for his complete acquittal and the restoration of his lost reputation.

According to Bolturuk, mistakes and behind-the-scenes maneuvers by some people in the president's entourage led to the disruption of his development plans and seriously jeopardized his international reputation.

"This created a dangerous precedent for violating the Global Agreement (GAA), which raises serious concerns among my Canadian colleagues and lawyers," he points out in his appeal.

Additionally, Bolturuk noted that he has developed a strategic development plan for Kyrgyzstan until 2030, which he believes can yield significant results in the coming months.

He also proposed cooperation with the president to improve the situation in the country, emphasizing the need to restore justice and legal integrity.

"I ask you to initiate a review of the case in light of the newly discovered circumstances and provisions of the GAA, which will allow me to fully acquit myself and restore my reputation. I also request the return of the unjustly paid fine and the payment of overdue wages in the holding," Bolturuk added.

We remind you that in 2022, the General Prosecutor's Office initiated three criminal cases against Tengiz Bolturuk. According to the investigation, the damage to the state amounted to 1 billion soms. After his arrest, he was placed in a pre-trial detention center, but he did not admit his guilt. In 2023, the First May District Court of Bishkek found him guilty and imposed a fine of 800,000 soms.

Together with other defendants in the case, the former head of 'Kumtor' compensated about 845 million soms, which helped avoid imprisonment.
