A scandal arose after a publication by Globo Esporte claimed that Neymar contacted the head coach of Santos, Juan Pablo Voivoda, to apologize for his outburst during the substitution in the match against Flamengo (2:3). The player himself firmly denied this information, leaving an angry comment on Instagram:

“Another lie made up by a lousy journalist!!!”

This situation caused a stir in Brazilian media, once again raising questions about Neymar's psychological resilience as he tries to recover from an injury.

On-Field Issues

Neymar's performance in the match against Flamengo faced harsh criticism. The Spanish publication Diario AS noted that the player looked “slow and out of shape,” warning that it would be difficult for him to return to Carlo Ancelotti's national team for the next World Cup.

After nearly a two-month break due to a muscle injury, Neymar missed seven matches and has yet to show his previous form. Despite several dangerous moments, including a powerful free kick and a header, his performance left much to be desired.

Meanwhile, Ancelotti once again did not include Neymar in the Brazil national team, noting that he had not communicated with him about a possible return.

Amid the criticism, Santos' executive director, Alexandre Mattos, defended Neymar, calling him a “misunderstood genius.”

“Geniuses are always misunderstood. They are ahead of their time, make mistakes, and face difficulties, but that is what makes them stronger. You leave a legacy and write history. Hard times toughen a man. I am always with you, brother,” Mattos noted in his Instagram.

Despite the current difficulties and media conflicts, Santos is confident that Neymar will be able to return to a high level and once again become the leader of the team.
