Islamic Games: Asan Zhanishov Lost in the Semifinals and Will Now Compete for Bronze

Athlete from Kyrgyzstan Asan Janishov will continue his fight for the bronze medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games taking place in Saudi Arabia.

He is competing in Greco-Roman wrestling in the weight category up to 87 kg.

Janishov started his journey from the 1/8 finals, where he managed to secure victories over wrestlers from Uzbekistan and Turkey, which led him to the semifinals.

In the semifinal match, he faced the reigning world champion from Iran, losing in a tense bout by a narrow margin — 6:7.

Now Asan is focused on fighting for the bronze medal, and his opponent will be Islam Abbasov from Azerbaijan.

As for the other participants, in the weight category up to 77 kg, Akzhol Mahmudov has reached the finals.

Razak Beishkeyev (up to 67 kg) could not advance to the semifinals, but he has been given a chance to compete for bronze in the consolation tournament, where his first opponent will be a wrestler from Afghanistan.

Akyil Sulaymanov (up to 60 kg) was unable to win his first match against an Algerian wrestler and has been eliminated from further medal contention.
