The "Washington Capitals" team faced difficulties as, following the injury of goalie Charlie Lindgren, the only remaining goaltender was Logan Thompson. In an emergency move, 35-year-old Parker Milner was signed, who had retired four years ago, but he did not take to the ice.

During the match, the "Capitals" took the lead three times thanks to goals from Tom Wilson, Ethen Frank, and Alexey Protas, but "Anaheim" responded each time with goals of their own. The young forward Beckett Senneke particularly stood out, scoring one goal and providing an assist.

In the third period, the "Ducks" created more offensive opportunities; however, both goalies showcased excellent skills, stopping the opponents' shots. In the shootout, "Anaheim" proved stronger: accurate shots from Troy Terry and Mason McTavish secured their victory, while "Washington" managed to convert only one of their chances.

The team captain Alexander Ovechkin, who had scored points in six consecutive games prior, was unable to contribute this time and did not participate in the shootout.
