One of the symbols of Kyrgyz football, Georgy Shevchenko, has passed away

We regret to inform you of the passing of Georgy Shevchenko, a veteran of Kyrgyz football and Honored Master of Sports of the USSR, who left this world at the age of 85.

Georgy Alekseevich played for the famous team "Alga" from 1965 to 1971, demonstrating outstanding qualities such as strategic thinking and reliable defense. His ability to organize the team earned him the nickname "Richard Sorge" from his teammates. In his debut match, "Alga" achieved a victory over "Pakhtakor" with a score of 4:1, with Shevchenko being one of the goal scorers.

The year 1967 was pivotal when "Alga" was on the verge of promotion to the top league. At the end of that season, Georgy Shevchenko and his teammates were awarded the title of Honored Master of Sports of the USSR.

After retiring from playing in 1971, Shevchenko shifted to coaching, working with young footballers and proving himself to be an outstanding educator. Under his guidance, the team won third place in the USSR championship among youth.

Although Kyrgyz football has lost one of its legends, the achievements and legacy of Georgy Shevchenko will remain in the memory and history of sports forever.
