Kyrgyz athletes participate in the Grand Prix Asia long backgammon tournament in Tashkent

On March 23, the international long backgammon tournament Grand Prix Asia kicked off in Tashkent, organized by the International Backgammon Federation. The competition gathered around 50 countries, highlighting the scale of the event, as noted by Sergey Ponomarev, head of the Kyrgyzstan Sports Backgammon Federation.

Kyrgyzstan is represented at the tournament by a team of 12 players competing under the Sports Backgammon Federation. Participation in such a significant international event provides our athletes with the opportunity to showcase their skills and represent the country on the international stage.






As part of the tournament, the main competition in long backgammon is taking place today, along with planned competitions in short backgammon, pair games, women's tournaments, and master classes.


The tournament features leading players from around the world, including champions and winners of national championships, which adds a special status and competitive atmosphere to the competitions.

Notably, the prize fund for the tournament this year exceeds $500,000, which is a record figure for such events in the region.
