Russian athletes set 29 national records in 2025

Alexander Georgeadze, the Secretary General of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (VFLA), announced at the international forum "Russia - Sports Power," taking place in Samara from November 5 to 7, that in 2025, Russian athletes set 29 new national records. This achievement was made possible despite the lack of opportunities to participate in international competitions under the auspices of World Athletics since 2022.

Support within the country

Georgeadze noted that the return of Russian athletes to the international arena remains an important goal. However, holding domestic tournaments allows athletes to maintain a high level of training and competitive spirit. The system of financial incentives in Russia promotes the establishment of new records and encourages athletes.

“These efforts help overcome the challenges associated with the absence of international starts. This year we saw 29 new national records,” he added.

Limited international opportunities

Despite the existing restrictions, Russia has some opportunities for international participation. The International Association of Athletics Federations (World Athletics) confirmed that Russian athletes can participate in certain tournaments and earn points.

The Russian team has already participated in the Sahel Countries Cup in Niger, where, according to VFLA statements, athletes gained important competitive experience. Participation in the African Championships in Tunisia is planned soon, which will allow athletes to maintain their form and prepare for future international competitions.

The "Russia - Sports Power" Forum

The international forum in Samara gathered representatives of sports organizations, experts, and athletes to discuss issues related to the development of sports in Russia and the return of Russian athletes to the international arena.
