Athlete from Kyrgyzstan Y. Krakovetsky will compete in the tournament among the stars of world judo


Athlete from Kyrgyzstan Yuri Krakovetsky will participate in the prestigious commercial tournament of the elite "Masters" series, which will take place from May 23 to 24 in Rabat (Morocco). Along with substantial prize money (200,000 dollars), the strongest judo masters from around the world will compete for ranking points for qualification for the 2016 Olympics, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro.

From May 23 to 24, the fifth International Judo Tournament for men and women will be held in Rabat (Morocco), where the top 16 judokas in each weight category according to the IJF world ranking will compete for ranking points. The "Masters" tournament is one of the most "profitable" for athletes participating in the Olympic qualification for Rio-2016. Gold will bring the winner 700 points, silver - 420, and bronze - 280.

The first such tournament of the highest level took place in Suwon, South Korea, in 2009, the second in Baku, Azerbaijan, in 2010, the third in Almaty, and the fourth in Tyumen, Russia, in 2013. In 2014, the "Masters" competitions were not held.

The fifth tournament with the highest ranking value of medals after the World Championship will gather the best athletes from around the globe in Morocco, including winners and medalists of the 2012 Olympic Games, past World Championships, continental championships, and tournaments of the "Grand Slam" and "Grand Prix" series.

According to preliminary data, more than two hundred of the strongest athletes from over forty countries will step onto the tatami in Morocco. The tournament will last two days and will determine the winners and medalists in 14 categories - seven for men and seven for women.

It is very honorable that Kyrgyzstan will be represented at this tournament, with Yuri Krakovetsky defending its honor, competing in the super heavyweight category - over 100 kg.

Let us remember that the silver medalist of the recent Asian Judo Championship, which took place in Kuwait, Kyrgyzstani Yuri Krakovetsky ranks 12th among the strongest judokas in the world in his weight category. Let’s wish our athlete good luck and victory in this tournament!

The competitions will be held in the following weight categories:

Men: 60, 66, 73, 81, 90, 100, +100 kg

Women: 48, 52, 57, 63, 70, 78, +78 kg

The duration of the match is 5 minutes for men, 4 minutes for women.

The prize pool of the tournament is 200,000 dollars

1st place: 6,000 dollars (judoka: 4,800 USD and coach 1,200 USD)

2nd place: 4,000 dollars (judoka: 3,200 USD and coach 800 USD)

3rd place (2 athletes): 2,000 dollars (judoka: 1,600 USD and coach 400 USD)
