Kyrgyz. Born in the city of Naryn. Graduated from KSU (1977).
Worked as a lecturer at OGPI, trainee lecturer at KSU, senior researcher, director of the Institute of Language and Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, and since 1995 - director of the National Center for Manas Studies and Artistic Culture.
Specialist in the field of philology, literature, and literary craftsmanship. Academician of the International Public Aitmatov Academy, California Academy (1997), Honorary Doctor of Soka University (Japan, 2001). Awarded the medal of the USSR.
Laureate of the Lenin Komsomol Prize of Kyrgyzstan in the field of Science and Technology (1983). Honored Worker of Science of the Kyrgyz Republic (1999). More than 250 scientific works published, including 20 monographs.
Under his supervision, 8 candidate dissertations have been defended.
