According to information from the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), an introductory trip related to the project "Sustainable Restoration of Landscapes in Kyrgyzstan" took place on October 17.

During the visit, mission participants explored the first pilot site located in the Jalal-Abad region. In this area, the implementation of "green" nature-based solutions aimed at reducing the risks of natural disasters, such as mudflows and soil erosion, is planned.

Members of the World Bank mission, along with representatives from the project implementation department of the MES, examined sites located in areas prone to mudflow formation. These lands were previously identified by the P.A. Gan Forestry Institute as suitable for the implementation of natural protective measures, including the creation of protective forest belts, slope stabilization, and the restoration of degraded lands.

As experts emphasize, the timely use of bioengineering methods and the planting of protective vegetation will help not only to mitigate the effects of mudflow processes but also to restore the natural balance of the region's ecosystem.

The delegation included the director of the project implementation department of the MES of the Kyrgyz Republic, Zhyldyz Toktorbaeva, her deputy, Chinara Berbaeva, senior ecologist and project team leader from the World Bank, Aydai Bayalieva, as well as specialists from the P.A. Gan Forestry Institute and representatives of local authorities.

This project is being implemented with the support of the World Bank and is financed through the International Development Association (IDA), with coordination carried out by the MES.
