In Bishkek, three truck drivers were fined for exceeding the permissible levels of exhaust gas pollution. The violations were recorded on February 19 as a result of a joint raid conducted by the Environmental and Technical Supervision Service in collaboration with the Patrol Police Department.

During the inspection, officials stopped about ten diesel trucks, three of which had air pollution levels exceeding the norm by 50%.

A special device called a smoke meter was used to monitor the quality of exhaust gases, which measures the light absorption coefficient of particles in the smoke. The device is installed in the exhaust pipe, after which the driver increases the engine RPM to 3000 several times. If the result exceeds 50%, a protocol for the violation is drawn up.

The first offender was the driver of a Mercedes truck, whose emission levels exceeded the permissible limits, resulting in a fine of 7,500 soms. A similar violation was also found with the driver of a Sprinter minibus.

In addition, officials stopped a heavy-duty truck with a trailer, which showed the highest pollution coefficient — over 70%.
