At the eco-council, Nursultan Tashybekov, the chief specialist of the ecology and urban environment improvement department of the Bishkek city hall, emphasized that although air quality in the capital improves every year, the smog problem still requires attention.

According to him, a comprehensive approach is being implemented to address this issue.

“Research shows that the main source of pollution is coal, followed by motor vehicles and industrial enterprises,” he specified.

Tashybekov also noted that by 2025, complete gasification of 54 out of 105 residential areas is planned, which will allow 52 thousand homes to be connected to natural gas, of which 75% are boiler houses.

“A ban on the use of finely milled coal has been introduced in Bishkek. The municipal inspection has drawn up 31 protocols for violations. There are 468 thousand registered vehicles in the capital, and considering the transit flow, their number reaches 700 thousand. Public transport has also been updated: instead of 3000 diesel buses, there are now 1447 gas buses and 120 electric buses. The city has organized 47 kilometers of bike lanes and 147 charging stations for electric vehicles at 82 locations. There are about 7000 electric vehicles in Bishkek,” he added.

In addition, by 2025, the planting of 18 thousand trees is planned, and work continues on cleaning riverbeds. An Eco-Technology plant has also been built, which generates electricity by processing solid household waste.
