President Donald Trump announced the introduction of a 25 percent customs duty on the import of semiconductors. This became known through a document published on the official White House website.

According to the bulletin, this duty will apply to certain chips, including Nvidia H200 and AMD MI325. However, there are exceptions: the duty will not be charged if the semiconductors are imported for expanding the country's production capacity, scientific research, or for use in data centers.

The document emphasizes that currently the U.S. produces only 10 percent of the necessary semiconductors, which creates a dependence on foreign supplies and poses a threat to the national security of the country.

The Axios portal also reports that Nvidia, which previously received permission to export chips manufactured in Taiwan to China, will now have to pay the duty upon their import.
