Interestingly, Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, had previously stated his company's contribution to the renovation fund, emphasizing pride in supporting a historic monument. However, Nvidia is not listed among the donors in official documents.
Greg Brockman, president of OpenAI, also attended a gala for sponsors who contributed over $2.5 million, organized by the Trump administration. According to WSJ, both tech giants may benefit from White House decisions: Nvidia from trade agreements with China, and OpenAI from eased regulations in the field of artificial intelligence.
The publication reports that the documents related to donations, managed by Meredith O'Rourke (who previously oversaw Trump’s campaign financing), include provisions for donor anonymity. The funds are collected by the charitable organization Trust for the National Mall, which has the right to provide tax deductions and ensure the confidentiality of its supporters.
The renovation of the White House, initiated by Donald Trump, is estimated at $300 million. During the work, the east wing was demolished, and internal changes were made, including the updating of the bathroom in Abraham Lincoln's bedroom. A new ballroom, accommodating a thousand guests, is planned to be built in place of the demolished wing.
Previously, Trump claimed that the renovation "would not affect the existing building," but now journalists note that the scale of the work significantly exceeds initial estimates.
