President of the United States Donald Trump announced the introduction of 25% tariffs for all countries that trade with Iran.

“As of today, every country conducting transactions with the Islamic Republic of Iran will be required to pay a 25% tariff on all their business operations with the U.S.,” Trump wrote on his social media account Truth Social.

According to Bloomberg, Iran's main trading partners include countries such as India, Turkey, and China.

Earlier, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt noted that Trump is considering various options for action regarding Iran in light of the harsh crackdown on protests, including the possibility of airstrikes; however, “the initial priority” remains diplomacy.

Protests in Iran began on December 28 after a strike by entrepreneurs in Tehran, triggered by the devaluation of the national currency and rising prices. According to the human rights organization HRA, at least 544 people have died as a result of these events.
