According to Reuters, the canceled tariffs pertain to beef, coffee, cocoa, and fruits. This decision was a response to sanctions against Brazil related to the criminal prosecution of former President Jair Bolsonaro, whom Trump supports.

Previously, the United States also lifted tariffs on agricultural products from other countries in an effort to curb rising food prices.

Trump's order is retroactive and applies to imports starting from November 13, allowing Brazil to demand a refund of previously paid tariffs.

Brazil is a key supplier of coffee in the American market, accounting for about one-third of its consumption, as well as an important source of beef used in burger production. In 2023, retail coffee prices in the U.S. rose by 40% due to the imposed tariffs and a decrease in global production caused by adverse weather conditions.

According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, rising food prices have become one of the main factors contributing to the decline in Trump's approval rating, which has fallen to a record low since his return to power.

It is worth noting that on November 16, Trump had already lifted tariffs on more than 200 different products, including coffee, beef, bananas, and orange juice. However, the issue of tariffs on Brazilian goods remained unresolved until today.
