A Center for the Russian Language and Literature will open in Kyrgyzstan

A new educational and methodological center for Russian-speaking teachers will soon open in the city of Kant, Kyrgyzstan. The project is being implemented on a partnership basis: the local district administration provides the premises for the Center, while the Russian side, represented by Rossotrudnichestvo and the Russian Embassy in Kyrgyzstan, is responsible for its content. This includes new modern textbooks, manuals, as well as video and audio materials.

- This year, it was decided to open an educational and methodological center for Russian-speaking teachers in Kant based on the city club "House of Friendship," - said Lyudmila Zhukova, a deputy of the Kant City Council, to a correspondent from the News-Asia portal.

- Currently, renovations are underway in the premises where the Center will be located. We cannot yet specify the exact timeline for the project's launch, but we hope it will happen soon. We really need such a Center. It is no secret that we lack textbooks in our republic, and those that exist are outdated. We plan for this Center to have textbooks and manuals not only for the Russian language and literature but also for chemistry, physics, and other subjects.

All materials available at the Center for the Russian Language and Literature will be freely accessible to teachers throughout the Issyk-Ata district. Similar projects are already successfully operating in the city of Tash-Kumyr and the villages of Aravan and At-Bashi.

- We are aware of the needs of the Kyrgyz Republic regarding textbooks, - said Alexey Zenko, head of the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in the KR. - Today, most Kyrgyz schoolchildren study using outdated textbooks from the 1980s. Russia cannot provide all schools in Kyrgyzstan with textbooks. Such Centers help to partially address this issue. Any teacher will be able to use the educational materials completely free of charge, study them, and apply them in their work. We understand that the demand is significantly higher. However, transporting textbooks from Russia to Kyrgyzstan is not cost-effective. We hope to reach an agreement with the authorities to print textbooks here on-site.

A similar experience was tested last year. As part of a program for all Kyrgyz schools, the Russian Federation, with the support of the Ministry of Education of the KR, printed about 240,000 Russian language textbooks for third grades. If agreements are reached on both sides, it is possible that the Russian side will sponsor another batch of new textbooks as a continuation of this project.
