Taalaybek Mambetaliev and his wife Zhibergul Akunova, residing in the village of Saruu in the Jeti-Oguz district of the Issyk-Kul region, are actively engaged in handicrafts.

In an interview with a Turmush correspondent, the couple shared that the prices of their products range from 200 to 15,000 soms.

Zhibergul, born in 1970 in the village of Ak-Terek, recalls how her grandmother, a talented craftswoman, instilled in her a love for embroidery and weaving "chiy" (mats) from childhood. She continued to develop her skills at the Chokmorov Art School in Bishkek, where she met her future husband Taalaybek. The couple got married in 1993 and has two sons.

The Mambetaliev family has been creating a variety of felt and wood products and souvenirs for many years. Initially, their works were in demand among foreign tourists, but in recent years, local residents have also shown interest in them. "We consider handicrafts our main profession and source of income, as both our families have a long history in this craft. Three years ago, we organized a small enterprise where we accept orders in an ethnic style from schools and kindergartens," Zhibergul shares.

In addition, they produce souvenirs, portraits (panels), and various types of shyrdaks. Local residents often come to them to learn handicrafts, but unfortunately, some lack the patience to complete their training. In the future, the couple plans to develop tourism and expand their workshops, which are of great interest, Zhibergul Akunova added.

Taalaybek also mentioned that their sons have continued the family tradition: one of them became a leather craftsman, while the other specializes in wood. "Both of our sons studied at the Chokmorov School and have a talent for handicrafts. Since childhood, I have been passionate about drawing and chose this profession. In my works, I mainly create portraits of characters using felting, inspired by the feats of Manas and Kanykey. To achieve perfection in art, one needs desire and talent," noted Taalaybek Mambetaliev.
