On December 4, residents of Almaty witnessed an earthquake that triggered alarm sirens urging people to seek shelter in their homes or evacuate buildings for safety.
According to information provided by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan, the earthquake was recorded on December 4, 2025, at 12:45 Astana time using the seismic station network of LLP "NNCSNI". The epicenter was located 277 kilometers from Almaty, within China.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that there was no information about casualties or damage.
According to the Department of Emergency Situations of Almaty, the magnitude of the earthquake was assessed at 2-3 points on the felt intensity scale.
Additionally, the Ministry of Emergency Situations published a list of settlements in Kazakhstan where this earthquake was felt. In Almaty and the Almaty region, including the Kegen, Raiymbek, Enbekshikazakh, Talgar, Uigur, Karasai, Ili, Balkhash, and Zhambyl districts, as well as the cities of Alatau and Konayev, people felt the tremors. In the Zhetysu region, residents of Taldykorgan, Zharkent, Ushtobe, and Tekeli, as well as in the Kerbulak, Panfilov, Koksu, Eskeldin, Karatal, Sarkand, and Aksu districts, felt it. In the Zhambyl region, the earthquake was felt in the Kordai, Merken, and Shu districts, in the city of Shu, and in the Turar Ryskulov district.
