One of the most picturesque places in the Naryn region is the pasture of Kashka-Suu, located near the village of Cholok-Kayin in the Ak-Talinsky district. This place not only amazes with its natural beauty but also holds many stories.

The correspondent of Turmush has gathered interesting facts about this pasture.

In Kashka-Suu, you can find a variety of tree species: birches, willows, spruces, and junipers. Many flowers and herbs also grow here, and among the wildlife, there are grazing animals, wolves, foxes, marmots, and falcons.

This pasture features historical sites such as Kyz-Korgon, Vulkan-Too, and Besh-Köl, which, thanks to their legends and rich history, can attract tourists.

Sayakbay Itikulov, a local resident, shared his memories of Kashka-Suu:

“This place is the homeland of my ancestors. They lived here, grazed livestock, and wintered. My ancestors were wealthy, but after the arrival of Soviet power, they tried to take their livestock away. My great-grandfather did not give in, and unfortunately, two of his sons died in Jalal-Abad and Naryn. On the pasture, you can still see the irrigation ditches that were dug by my ancestors using the horns of ibexes. Kashka-Suu is truly a beautiful place. Near the rock of Kurkurak-Zoo, there is a lake, and white birches grow around. In the past, during the Kokand Khanate, local residents hid their daughters in caves to prevent them from being captured. That is why this place is called Kyz-Korgon (kyz — girl, korgon — protection).”

According to Sayakbay, there is a legend that in the 17th century, a volcanic eruption occurred at the foot of Kurkurak-Zoo, burying 40 households under lava.

“To the east of Kyz-Korgon is the rock of Kurkurak-Zoo. In the evenings, sounds resembling grumbling can be heard from it, and that is why the rock is named as such. The legend says that in the 16th century, there was a volcanic eruption here. As a result, you can now see pits and hills in this place,” he explained.

Below are the lakes of Mazar-Köl, Samyn-Köl, Kök-Köl, Ylay-Köl, and Bazarbay-Köl, which are collectively called Besh-Köl (Five Lakes). To the east of Besh-Köl are the areas of Sary-Zhon and Tokson-Teke. In the latter, my grandfather Moldobai built a mill. After the arrival of Soviet power, they began to dispossess him. He refused to give up his livestock, and as a result, Russian soldiers opened fire and wounded my grandmother, who soon died due to lack of medical assistance,” Sayakbay added.

Additionally, he noted that there are two passes on the pasture of Kashka-Suu: Besh-Abyshka and Kökön Chal.

“Our ancestor Tazkara built a mosque there, but his enemies killed him. When they left with his severed head, they encountered a fool who told them to throw the head away. They obeyed and left it, and later it was covered with stones. This place is called Dumana-Mazar. Tazkara had such a long beard that he wrapped it around his waist,” he shared.
