President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced a significant event for the country on Friday: the launch of the first Uzbek cosmonaut into space. This will be a historic moment, occurring for the first time in the years of independence.
The head of state emphasized: "Today I am pleased to announce the start of work on launching not only an artificial satellite into space but also our first cosmonaut — a citizen of Uzbekistan."
He also added that this event will be an important step in the scientific and technological progress of New Uzbekistan and will help raise the level of national development.
With a light joke, he noted that "the Uzbek cosmonaut will be able to meet the stars that were discovered by our ancestors."
These words from the president were met with prolonged applause in the Congress Center.
