Mikhail Fedorov has been appointed as the new Minister of Defense of Ukraine. This decision was supported by 277 deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, reports "Meduza".

Fedorov also announced plans to change the approach to training Ukrainian servicemen. "Effective training contributes to reducing losses and increasing combat readiness. We cannot turn a blind eye to the issues of the TCK. After conducting a comprehensive audit, we will propose systemic solutions aimed at addressing the accumulated problems while maintaining the country's defense capability," he emphasized.

Previously, the position of Minister of Defense was held by Denys Shmyhal, the former Prime Minister, who served in this role for six months, starting from July 2025. In early 2026, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the need to "change the format of the Ministry of Defense" and proposed that Mikhail Fedorov, who at that time held the position of Minister of Digital Transformation, lead the agency.
