Life in the Regions: The Flower That Blooms for 7 Years by Birthday: The Story of a Florist from Kadamjay
In an interview with a Turmush correspondent, she shared that floriculture has become not just a hobby for her, but a true calling.
“I live with my flowers. They hear both my joys and my sorrows. I have over 15 types of plants, and each of them requires individual care. I buy special vitamins for them, as they need care and attention,” Mutabar said.
“I even play music for them. Among my favorites are several varieties of calathea, the ‘female happiness’ flower, argesia, various lilies, red anthurium, and others. A special flower is the calla, which blooms every year on my birthday, for the past seven years. Besides vitamins, I also buy different soils and fertilizers,” she added.
According to the florist, she orders most of the seedlings from Bishkek, but she propagates some varieties herself by rooting cuttings and collecting seeds.
“Prices for flowers vary. The most expensive is the ‘ardisia,’ which costs up to 1000 soms. Perhaps the high price affects the low demand. The other plants range from 250 to 500 soms,” she noted. Mutabar also has a rare flower called “Goldfish,” which attracts great interest from buyers.
She chose the hallway of her home for her flower beds, installing a special heating system and a large window for sunlight access.
“I have proven that it is possible to successfully grow flowers at home and earn money from it. This money goes towards daily expenses and food. Previously, I worked in Russia, and upon returning to my village, I became passionate about floriculture. Not much time has passed since then, but my collection of flowers has significantly increased. My upcoming plans include bringing in even more new varieties,” she concluded.
