"We communicated through facial expressions and gestures": The story of Ulyush Saipidinova, a student in Turkey
Ulush was born in 2002 in Kara-Myk, a small village in the Chon-Alai district of the Osh region. She graduated from Lenin School and then in 2020 enrolled in the Faculty of Kyrgyz Philology and Journalism at Osh State University, choosing the specialty of "journalism." She will complete her studies in 2024.
“At the moment, I am studying in the master's program at Atatürk University in Erzurum. This academic year, I started learning the Turkish language, and with the arrival of the next year, I will begin my master's program. My arrival in Turkey was made possible by a grant program that covers the costs of tuition, accommodation, and meals,” Saipidinova shared.
She also talked about her experience living in Turkey and compared it to life in Kyrgyzstan:
“The educational systems of the two countries differ, but both aim for high-quality education. However, there are many similarities in culture, traditions, and languages. At first, I found it difficult to communicate with foreign students due to the language barrier, but we found a way to interact through facial expressions and gestures, which became an interesting and memorable experience for me,” Ulush noted.
In her future plans, she expressed her aspirations:
“I intend to successfully complete my master's program and return to Kyrgyzstan to teach at one of the local universities. My main goal is to pass on the knowledge I gained in Turkey to Kyrgyz youth,” she added.
Ulush emphasized the importance of learning languages while studying abroad.
“My advice to those who dream of studying in Turkey: don’t be afraid and strive for your goal. Set clear objectives and actively participate in student life. Join courses and training sessions, collect diplomas and certificates — this can be useful for applying abroad. I also strongly recommend paying attention to language learning, as it is very important when living in another country,” she concluded.
