In recent years, there has been a noticeable decrease in the number of registered unemployed in Kyrgyzstan.

This data is provided by the National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic based on information obtained from the Ministry of Labor and Social Development.

According to the agency, in 2020-2021, the unemployment rate reached its peak; however, by the beginning of 2026, it had decreased by almost half.

Official figures show that in January 2018, there were 70,869 unemployed individuals in the country. By 2019, this figure began to rise, reaching 77,835 in March, and increasing to 83,222 by October. The highest values were recorded in 2021, when the number of unemployed reached 83,295.

Since 2022, the situation has started to improve. Throughout that year, the number of unemployed fluctuated between 75,000 and 76,000, followed by a steady decline. In 2023, the registered unemployed decreased from 67,603 to 56,561, in 2024 from 50,854 to 44,717, and in 2025 from 40,968 to 37,565. By the beginning of 2026, the number of unemployed was approximately 37,975.

The southern regions of the country still have the highest number of unemployed. In the Jalal-Abad region, there were 23,471 registered unemployed in 2018, a number that increased to 28,207 in the following years. However, by 2023, this figure decreased to 18,316, and by 2024 to 15,515, and by the beginning of 2026, it was 10,213.

A similar situation is observed in the Osh region: in 2018, there were 15,564 unemployed, peaking at 20,486. Subsequently, this figure gradually decreased to 17,000 in 2022, to 15,000 in 2023 and 2024, and by 2026, it was 10,303.

A decrease in the unemployment rate is also noted in other regions. In the Batken region, the number of unemployed increased from 8,954 in 2018 to 14,465 in 2022, but then there was a sharp decline to 4,703 by 2026.

In the Chui region, the maximum figure was 5,907, after which it decreased to 1,317. In the Issyk-Kul region, unemployment decreased from a peak of 4,936 to 1,964, in the Naryn region from 4,068 to 1,065, and in the Talas region from 3,510 to 2,339 individuals.

An important aspect is the situation in the largest cities. In Bishkek, there were 5,059 registered unemployed in 2018, and in 2022, this figure reached its peak at 7,115. Then there was a sharp decline: by 2025, their number decreased to 3,325, and by the beginning of 2026, to 2,859.

In Osh, a different picture is observed: the unemployment rate remains stable and even slightly increases. In 2018, there were 2,328 unemployed, and by 2026, their number increased to 3,212.

Among the districts, the highest number of unemployed was recorded in the Nookat district of the Osh region, where it exceeded 8,600 individuals, decreasing to 4,023 by 2026. In the Kara-Suu district, the number of unemployed exceeded 4,000 but then decreased to around 1,400. In the Aksy district of the Jalal-Abad region, unemployment reached 11,060 individuals, after which it decreased to 3,581. In the Kadamjay district of the Batken region, the unemployment rate decreased from more than 5,500 to approximately 1,000 individuals.

Thus, from 2021 to 2026, registered unemployment in Kyrgyzstan decreased from more than 83,000 to less than 38,000 individuals. A particularly noticeable reduction occurred in regions with traditionally high unemployment rates— in the south of the country, as well as in the capital.

Despite this, there are still differences between regions: in most areas, there is a steady decline, while in some cities, such as Osh, the unemployment rate remains stable.
