According to information from the KR Ombudsman Institute, serious problems related to the shortage of medications for patients have been identified as a result of monitoring two oncology institutions in Bishkek.
At the National Center for Oncology and Hematology, it was found that about 80 types of essential drugs, including expensive medications for cancer treatment, are missing from medical institutions, jeopardizing the health of cancer patients.
Employees of the Ombudsman Institute analyzed medical and financial documentation and concluded that the reason for the medication shortage is regular delays in deliveries and low procurement volumes carried out by the state enterprise "Kyrgyzpharmacia".
Many patients report to human rights defenders that they are forced to search for and purchase medications on their own, indicating that the shortage of expensive medications is observed both in individual institutions and across the country.
Representatives of the Ombudsman Institute note that this situation violates citizens' rights to access necessary medications and quality, continuous treatment.
To provide the oncology service with the necessary medications, approximately 2.5 billion soms are required. In this regard, human rights defenders emphasize the importance of urgent measures, revising existing procurement mechanisms, and significantly increasing funding for oncological care.
