The incident occurred on the first day of a 12-day cruise
A tourist liner caught fire on the Nile River in Egypt, with 220 people on board. This was reported by the Daily Mail.
The fire broke out on the evening of October 28, when the ship Empress, at the beginning of its 12-day cruise, was traveling from Luxor to Edfu. The fire started in the galley and quickly spread throughout the hull, destroying cabins and other areas.
The crew activated the alarm and began evacuating passengers to the upper deck. However, the process was complicated as the fire engulfed the first deck, blocking the exit.
"The situation was chaotic. People were in a panic and didn't know what to do. Some managed to escape through the gangway, while others could not leave their cabins and were rescued using two small boats," shared one of the tourists.
The liner was docked at an unofficial mooring near Esna, and evacuation began. There were no reports of injuries or fatalities. Preliminary reports suggest that the cause of the fire was a short circuit.
