According to the statement, Andrew will now be referred to as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. The process of stripping him of all titles has been initiated by King Charles III.
Buckingham Palace also announced that Prince Andrew will have to leave the Royal Lodge in Windsor and move to private accommodation, Sandringham estate in Norfolk, with financial support from the King.
The official statement reads: “These measures are necessary, even though Andrew continues to deny the allegations. Their Majesties want to emphasize that their thoughts and deep sympathy are with the victims and survivors of any form of violence.”
At the same time, Andrew's daughters, Princess Beatrice and Eugenie, will retain their titles.
Prince Andrew had a friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, the American financier who committed suicide in prison in 2019 after being accused of sexually exploiting minors.
In 2021, Virginia Giuffre filed a lawsuit against Andrew, claiming that as a teenager she became a victim of Epstein, who passed her to his influential acquaintances, including the prince. She stated that in 2001, when she was 17, she had sex with Andrew three times.
Prince Andrew has repeatedly denied all allegations. Virginia Giuffre took her own life in April 2025.
