The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan expressed concern over EU sanctions against Tajik banks

In its official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that Tajikistan adheres to all international obligations and is ready to cooperate with partners to prevent potential risks associated with circumventing sanctions.

“The Government of the Republic of Tajikistan is closely monitoring the current situation and is taking necessary measures to mitigate the negative consequences of the imposed sanctions,” the statement released today by the ministry says.

On October 23, 2025, the European Union approved a new package of anti-Russian sanctions, which became the 19th and affected the activities of several banks and companies from third countries, including institutions from Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, the UAE, Hong Kong, China, and India.

Three Tajik financial institutions were included in the sanctions list: Dushanbe City Bank, “Spitamen Bank,” and “Commercial Bank of Tajikistan.” This decision has already been published on the official website of the EU Council and will come into effect on November 12, 2025.

A total of 12 banks and companies from the specified third countries have been sanctioned, including financial institutions from Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, the UAE, Hong Kong, China, and India.

According to official information from the EU Council, “these entities were involved in circumventing European Union sanctions and are now subject to a prohibition on conducting transactions.”

This means that the mentioned banks are prohibited from carrying out any operations with entities or companies from the EU, effectively limiting their interaction with the European financial system, including transfers and settlements in euros.
