At the Cabinet of Ministers meeting on November 5, 2025, Minister Enkhbayar Zhadamba announced the preliminary results of the 2025 harvest.
This season, the country harvested 745.1 thousand tons of agricultural products, including 274.1 thousand tons of grains. Of the total grain volume, 252.3 thousand tons were wheat. Additionally, 101.9 thousand tons of potatoes, 208.6 thousand tons of vegetables, 133.3 thousand tons of fodder crops, and 27.2 thousand tons of oilseeds were collected. These figures are 503.3 thousand tons, or about 40%, lower than last year. In particular, wheat production decreased by 35%, potatoes by nearly 23%, vegetables by 22%, fodder crops by 46%, and oilseeds by 49%.
According to preliminary data, domestic production will be able to meet 62.5% of wheat needs, 76.9% of potato needs, and 72.6% of vegetable needs.
The decrease in yield is attributed to drought and unfavorable weather conditions. From May to July, agricultural regions experienced a lack of precipitation, with air temperatures reaching 37–39.5 °C and soil temperatures fluctuating between 65–69.6 °C. For seven to ten days, soil temperatures exceeded 40 °C, and sudden rains and hail had an additional negative impact on the harvest.
Despite the unfavorable conditions, August and September brought more suitable weather, allowing the harvest to begin 7-10 days earlier than usual. This contributed to improved product quality. Wheat ripened evenly and had a high gluten content, the minister reported.
As a result of the discussion, the Cabinet of Ministers instructed Minister Enkhbayar to develop and implement a comprehensive plan for creating strategic reserves of wheat and seed stocks for grains, potatoes, and fodder crops for 2026. He was also tasked with developing measures to minimize risks to agriculture related to natural disasters and to consider extending the repayment terms for loans to agricultural producers.
