The installation of the laser system "Ellex SLT Tango" was carried out as part of the partnership between MNUMS and the Australian international organization Sight for All, with the support of the Australian Embassy in Mongolia.
Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) is a minimally invasive and non-traumatic procedure that has already proven to be an effective method for treating glaucoma worldwide, being the gold standard in this field.
According to international recommendations, the Ellex SLT Tango system is recognized as safe and highly effective for the first line treatment of open-angle glaucoma. The implementation of this technology is expected to significantly improve the accessibility and quality of glaucoma treatment in Mongolia.
Glaucoma is a group of diseases characterized by increased intraocular pressure and damage to the optic nerve, which can lead to its atrophy and loss of vision. This chronic disease may not manifest for a long time, so regular diagnosis and timely treatment are extremely important.
The opening ceremony of the new equipment was attended by the rector of MNUMS, Damdindorj Boldbaatar, the Australian Ambassador to Mongolia, Leo Zheng, the president of the Mongolia-Japan Hospital, Bayasgalan Purevdorj, as well as faculty members and resident doctors from the Department of Ophthalmology.
With a full SLT laser and a powerful YAG laser, Tango Neo™ provides more effective treatment for patients with open-angle and closed-angle glaucoma, and is also a reliable tool for capsulotomy.
