On Wednesday, November 19, a representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, stated at a regular press conference that Beijing would be forced to take decisive measures if Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takahichi did not retract her erroneous statements about Taiwan. According to DW, her words were confirmed by Reuters.
Mao Ning emphasized that Japan needs to take concrete steps to protect the foundations of bilateral relations. She noted that the Japanese Prime Minister's statements have caused serious damage to these relations. Furthermore, the Chinese Foreign Ministry representative warned that if Tokyo continues to make mistakes, China will respond with tough measures.
At the press conference, Mao Ning also commented on the recently imposed ban on the import of Japanese seafood into China. She noted that under current conditions, Japanese seafood would not be able to find a market, even if exports to China were to continue.
