During his visit, President Khurelsukh laid flowers at the grave of Pope Francis, located in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome.

Pope Francis was buried in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore on April 26 of this year.

The Pope's tomb is made of marble sourced from Liguria, the homeland of Pope Bergoglio's ancestors. The gravestone, according to his wishes, features a single inscription – Franciscus – as well as an image of his cross.

Pope Francis found his final resting place next to the altar of Saint Francis of Assisi and the chapel of the Virgin Mary "Salvation of the Roman People." It was at this icon that the Holy Father prayed during key moments of his pontificate and now rests under its protection.

In 2023, Pope Francis visited Mongolia on an official visit, becoming the first pontiff to visit the country in 777 years since diplomatic relations were established in the 13th century.

During his visit, the Pope highly praised Mongolia's contribution to supporting world peace and stability, calling it "a symbol of freedom of thought and faith."

Over the 12 years of his pontificate, Pope Francis has become an outstanding figure, making a significant contribution to global peacekeeping and the development of mutual understanding and respect among peoples.
