From December 1 to 3, 2025, the President of Mongolia, Khurelsukh Ukhna, along with the First Lady Bolortsetseg Luvsandorj, is on a state visit to Rome at the invitation of Sergio Mattarella, the President of the Italian Republic.
At Fiumicino International Airport, President Khurelsukh was welcomed by high-ranking officials, including Nicola Carè, a member of the Chamber of Deputies of Italy and head of the Italy-Mongolia parliamentary group, as well as Bruno Pasquino, a diplomat from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Also present were the Ambassador of Italy to Mongolia, Giovanna Piccarreta, the Ambassador of Mongolia to Italy, Narantuulag Tserendorj, and the Ambassador of Mongolia to the Holy See, Gerelmaa Davaansuren.
This visit is timed to the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Italy.
In August 2018, the Ambassador of Italy to Mongolia, Andrea de Felippe, presented a unique copy of a letter sent by Kublai Khan to the Pope in 1245 to the Kharkhorum Museum.
Italy, with roots in the Roman Empire, was unified into a kingdom in 1861 and became a republic in 1946 after a nationwide referendum, making it an influential member of the "Group of Seven".
