On December 4, Pope Leo XIV will meet with the President of Mongolia, Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, in the Vatican.

At the invitation of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, the President of Mongolia, Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, will make a state visit to the Vatican on December 4, 2025.

This will be the first visit by a Mongolian president to the Vatican in the last 14 years.

It will be the first time since October 16, 2011, when the fourth president of Mongolia, Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, visited the Vatican and discussed the expansion of bilateral relations with Pope Benedict XVI.

During the upcoming visit, President Khurelsukh is scheduled to have an official meeting with the Pope, as well as a meeting with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who serves as the head of the Vatican's Secretariat of State.

Diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the Holy See were established on April 4, 1992.

Over the past three decades, there has been active development of cooperation in the fields of culture, education, healthcare, and humanitarian assistance.

The state visit of Pope Francis in 2023, at the invitation of President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, was a significant event that strengthened the nearly 800-year ties between Mongolia and the Vatican.

Letters from Pope Innocent IV to the Great Khan Guyuk, dated 1245, and the Khan's response letter from 1246 serve as important historical evidence of the interaction between the two countries in the past.
