The President of Mongolia, Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, continues his state visit to Italy.

During the visit, the head of Mongolia participated in the opening ceremony of the "International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists," which was proposed by his country. This was reported by the press service of the President of Mongolia.

He expressed satisfaction that the United Nations General Assembly approved Mongolia's initiative in 2022, proclaiming 2026 as the "International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists."

Khurelsukh also emphasized that this international year has the potential to significantly strengthen global food security, promote sustainable management and restoration of rangelands, and enhance the status of nomadic pastoralists.

Additionally, he noted that Mongolia is actively implementing a number of related national initiatives and programs. These include "One Billion Trees," "Food Supply and Security," and "White Gold," which aim to combat climate change, desertification, soil degradation, and improve food security.

Khurelsukh urged other countries to actively participate in the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, which will be held in Ulaanbaatar in 2026.

The opening ceremony of the "International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists" took place at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Rome.
